Tencent announced on April 20 at Love for Yushu – a Special for Donation against the Earthquake a China Central Television (CCTV) program co-hosted by the Propaganda Department of the Communist Party of China the State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT) the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) and the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) that it would donate RMB20 million more to earthquake-stricken Yushu in Qinghai Province. Tencent Charity Foundation started up its emergency rescue mechanism to donate RMB2 million to the quake-stricken area earlier on April 14 the day when the earthquake occurred. Tencent has donated RMB22 million up to now.

Meanwhile Tencent leveraged its Internet platform advantages and resources and worked closely with Tencent Netizens Love Foundation China Children and Teenagers’ Fund (CCTF) to launch online donation for disaster relief in Qinghai Province with a slogan of “Show Your Love for Qinghai by Fighting the Earthquake together”. The donation reached RMB2750624.16 by April 20 at 8:00pm.

To make sure that the donation from netizens is properly used Tencent took immediate actions by coordinating the transportation of resources from various sources to the quake-stricken area. It partnered with the Amity Foundation to form Tencent-Amity Rescue Team on the day of the earthquake. The team headed for Yushu at temperatures below 0℃ and became the first non-governmental charity organization that arrived in Yushu for disaster relief. The rescue team purchased and distributed four batches of materials for disaster relief around the clock in six days up to April 20 including quilts and medicine.

“We are grateful to Tencent-Amity Rescue Team for its quilts instant noodles mineral water and other materials for disaster relief. We are very happy and thankful to the loving Tencent netizens and donors!” said Puduo the head of Cuoduo Village Yushu Qinghai Province in a letter to Tencent netizens on which he left his fingerprint to express his gratitude to the loving netizens who cared about the quake-stricken area.

Chen Yidan Executive Director General of the Tencent Charity Foundation and Chief Administration Officer of Tencent called on businesses and Internet users to participate in the nationwide-collaborative disaster-relief efforts in Yushu thereby fighting the disaster and rebuilding homes with their compatriots.
