On the afternoon of November 21 Tencent held a grand foundation laying ceremony for its Binhai Building in Sea Filling Zone 6 in the Shenzhen Hi-Tech Development Zone. This important event of the 13th China Hi-Tech Fair was attended by Wang Rong member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Party Secretary of the CPC Shenzhen municipal government Xu Qin Vice Party Secretary of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Mayor of Shenzhen Gao Guohui deputy secretary-general of the Shenzhen municipal government Gao Zhenhuai deputy secretary-general of the Shenzhen municipal government and Director of Municipal General Office and officials from Nanshan District Party Committee District People's Congress Government CPPCC as well as from Shenzhen development and reform commission Shenzhen science industry and trade committee urban planning land and resources commission of Shenzhen municipality human living environment committee transport commission and the Shenzhen Hi-Etch Development Zone. Meanwhile hundreds of guests from enterprises and media reporters witnessed this historical moment together with Tencent employees!

At the start of the ceremony Charles Chen Tencent Co-Founder and CAO firstly expressed sincere thanks to all attending officials and distinguished guests. In his address Charles Chen said that Tencent as a company which has grown along with the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone has after fast development in the past 13 years made a “small penguin” the China’s largest and the world’s third largest integrated Internet service provider. All these achievements are inseparable from China’s reform and opening-up and the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. In the face of its remarkable achievements Tencent continues to center on user demand and values and has started to pursue harmony and win-win in the industry instead of arrogance and being verbohrt. The construction of Tencent Binhai Building will further boost Tencent’s R&D and innovation abilities and enable it to produce more Internet products and services meeting user demand and user habits and develop a more splendid and more convenient “one-stop” online life for users!

In his address Mayor Xu Qin warmly congratulated on the foundation laying of Tencent Binhai Building and said that as an enterprise growing up in Shenzhen Tencent has persistently innovated and developed into a leader in China’s Internet industry. The mayor said: “We are pleased to see that Tencent is not content with its current achievements and has instead made bold strategic adjustment opened its platform to share with the industry its massive users advanced technologies and operational platforms and build a harmonious win-win industry chain and made important contributions to helping China’s Internet industry to grow in strength and actively take part in international competitions”.

This year Shenzhen has successively set up the Alliance of Industries Academia and Research Institutions for Cloud Computing and the Alliance of Industries Academia and Research Institutions for Mobile Internet. As a leading founding member of both alliances Tencent is facing both rare opportunities and heavy tasks ahead. Mayor Xu Qin hopes that Tencent could take the foundation laying of the Binhai Building as a new starting point to accomplish new glories and faster reach the top of the global Internet industry!

Subsequently Wang Rong member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Party Secretary of the CPC Shenzhen municipal government Xu Qin Vice Party Secretary of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Mayor of Shenzhen and other officials as well as Tencent both C-Founders Pony Ma CEO and Charles Chen CAO earthed up the foundation stone of Tencent Binhai Building together.

Tencent Binhai Building is Tencent’s new headquarters building in Shenzhen and is located at the intersection between Houhai Avenue and Binhai Avenue in Nanshan District Science Park and the southwest corner of Sea Filling Zone 6 of the Shenzhen Hi-Tech Development Zone. With a gross floor space of almost 350000m2 it is expected to be put into use in 2016. The Building consists of a 248m 50-floor south tower building a 194m 41-floor north tower building and 3 “connecting layers” which connect the 2 tower buildings and have shared supporting facilities inside symbolizing the “interconnection” of the Internet. Upon completion the Building will become a new landmark building on Binhai Avenue in Shenzhen.

Tencent employees attending the ceremony said that they were full of expectations of the new Headquarters Building and more confident of the future of their company. They vowed to make even greater efforts and create more values for Tencent’s users.
