On December 16 Tencent Technology (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. held a foundation laying ceremony for its Shenzhen-Shantou Cloud Computing Data Center in the Shenzhen-Shantou Special Cooperation Zone. Member of Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and Guangdong Party Secretary Wang Yang Deputy Secretary of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Acting Governor of Guangdong Province Zhu Xiaodan Guangdong Party Committee Standing Member & Shenzhen Party Secretary Wang Rong Shenzhen Mayor Xu Qin Shanwei Party Secretary Zhen Yanxiong Acting Shanwei Mayor Wu Zhili and other provincial and municipal officials as well as Tencent Co-Founder Chairman & CEO Pony Ma and Tencent Co-Founder and CAO Charles Chen laid earth for the foundation of the project.

Upon completion the Tencent Shenzhen-Shantou Cloud Computing Data Center will become the largest cloud computing data center in South China and provide quality service to hundreds of millions of Internet users in the region. Meanwhile it will also build an open application service platform for large numbers of third parties that provides open interfaces and plays a clustering effect in the Internet industry.

The Tencent Shenzhen-Shantou Cloud Computing Data Center is the first major project to enter the cooperation zone since its establishment. According to leader of the Administrative Committee of the Shenzhen-Shantou Special Cooperation Zone the Tencent Project is a national cloud computing pilot project with a huge investmenta high industry correlation and a strong radiation effect . Its construction in the cooperation zone marks an important achievement for Tencent to leverage the comparative advantages of both Shenzhen and Shantou and deepen cooperation between the two sides. It is also an important sign of the full-scale construction of the cooperation zone. The Tencent Project will drive leading enterprises and major projects strengthen enterprises’ confidence in investing in the zone boost the business attraction of the zone and carry a great significance for the zone to make a good start.
