Tencent Employees Donate Their Voices to Raise the Awareness of Cervical Cancer

2023.06.30

More than 300 Tencent volunteers have recently donated their voices to narrate educational videos aimed to raise the awareness of cervical cancer and educate people on preventive measures.

In May, Tencent's SSV Lab for Inclusive Health and WeSing, a popular online karaoke platform in China, organized a campaign for the increasingly common type of cancer, being the fourth most common cancer for women worldwide with an estimated 604,000 new cases in 2020.

Experts say that early detection and prevention are key to reducing the number of cases, which is why Tencent initiated the voice-over campaign to increase people’s exposure to learning preventive measures.

Personal Approach

Having everyday people’s voice was the key, according to the SSV Lab and WeSing officials. Compared to professional voice actors, the delivery is more genuine and relatable.

Also, it was an ideal way to achieve our goal of reaching friends and family members on a personal level, which would further help raise the awareness and spark meaningful conversations about behavioral change, vaccinations, and screening.

The video has currently received over 12,000 views. The volunteers used various dialects in addition to Mandarin, including Cantonese, Minnan, Sichuan, Henan, and Shaanxi dialects. This approach appealed to a broader audience, evoking nostalgia for many listeners through the use of familiar dialects.
